Revolt
A charging solution that is much more than a few charging stations
July 2021, by Nico Olsthoorn - Driving an electric car is becoming increasingly popular, which has everything to do with the energy transition we are in the middle of right now. More and more companies are therefore making the switch to electric (lease) cars. For this you need charging stations, but by no means are all lessors of business premises willing to install them and the investment is too big for lessees. In addition, we are faced with insufficient grid capacity in more and more places, because the grid operators cannot cope with the growing amount of ‘green’ energy. Recently, a solution became available for both problems: the Revolt charging solution.
Charging solution without investment
Revolt is an independently operating start-up within the Pon Equipment & Pon Power (PEPP) group. They have developed a charging solution with an all-in-one subscription, without upfront investment. Revolt makes the investment and takes care of the installation and maintenance. This means you know exactly where you stand and you are never confronted with any unexpected maintenance costs.
“There is no better feeling than being able to physically show your product and the solution to customers. So doing exactly that at Pon Power in Papendrecht was excellent.”
The charging solution in practice: from advice to implementation
It starts with examining the business situation. What is the most optimal charging solution for your electric vehicle fleet, for now and in the near future?
Revolt takes a close look at the current fleet, future wishes and the available charging capacity. Because the Revolt charging facility package is more than just regular charging stations, a solution can be realised for every situation.
The Revolt package consists of:
- ONE charging stations with 2 charging points per charging station
- MAX charging stations with 2 charging points and 2 displays per charging station
- Batteries for extra charging capacity
Pon Power supplies both the pms and ems solution
- The PMS (Power Management System) ensures that the assets within the Revolt package are and remain optimally aligned
- The EMS (Energy Management System) allows the Revolt assets to communicate with external assets, such as solar panels, so that the energy balance is always as favourable as possible (using as little energy as possible at the lowest possible cost)
The Revolt charging solution is a great example of effective collaboration between three parties that complement and reinforce each other. Revolt supplies the hardware and has all the expertise in that area, together with battery supplier Northvolt. Pon Power takes care of the technical implementation and the intelligent energy management systems & their optimal performance.

When do you use what? An example:
The situation
A medium-sized company wants to offer all its employees the opportunity to charge their electric lease cars during office hours, which is not possible with the current 5 charging stations. Currently, we are looking at 20 vehicles but in the future, there will probably be more. Grid capacity is insufficient to charge 20 electric vehicles at the same time. This company also has 50 solar panels on the roof.
The approach
A total of 5 extra charging stations will be installed to achieve the desired 20 charging connection points. Since the power required for this cannot be supplied via the regular grid connection, a single Revolt Battery is installed.
The Energy Management System is set up in such a way that the cars are charged during the day and the battery during evenings and nights, when demand is low. The solar panels, the charging stations and the battery are connected via the EMS. This means that solar energy for charging the cars is used at maximum efficiency, with any surplus being stored in the battery.
The charging solution can easily be expanded with additional charging stations and batteries, making the system future-proof. As soon as more power is needed, it’s simply a matter of installing more batteries. This hardly requires an extra space, as the batteries can be stacked. For example, 2 batteries only take up one parking space.
What do (prospective) customers think?
(Prospective) customers are enthusiastic, which in itself is not surprising, because Revolt first conducted some thorough research before developing a solution. All this in consultation with two parties that could provide the necessary added value: Pon Power in the field of intelligent energy management systems and Northvolt in the field of batteries.
The common thread in the feedback can be summarised in these two comments, which are regularly made:
“Its so small! When thinking of the battery I envisaged a large sea container. In reality, the solution is even more compact and beautiful than I’d expected.”
“It’s great that you solved this problem while keeping it affordable and flexible.”
What we say to this is that energy solutions such as microgrids and smart grids and energy storage solutions such as these from Revolt are becoming increasingly important, because the energy supply has become unstable.
This is caused by the fact that one-way grid traffic has now become two-way. In addition, solar and wind energy are not stable energy sources and we will have to respond to the fluctuations that this entails.
